Clarifications

It seems that somehow a great deal of mythology has been created centering on my role in foot rubs, fly fishing, and attendance at this "Ladies Trek" event. I'll deal with each in order to clarify:

  1. Foot rubs: John Kalmer was the person promising foot rubs. My only intention was to find out where the line forms.
  2. Fly Fishing: When I put a hook in the water, fish become an endangered species if not extinct; not a one is to be found when I fish. No, I'm no fisherman. At some point, however, I made no comments on the implications of guys at a woman's gathering and fly fishing.
  3. Ladies Trek Attendance: I never seriously considered coming to Colorado for this event. As attractive as it all sounds - and it does sound incredibly enticing - unless something rather spectacular happens, it's not at all realistic for me to make the trek this summer. With the exception of our annual week long visit to New York’s rugged Adirondacks in early July, all the rest of our discretionary time will be taken up focusing on our daughter's fall marriage. I have exceedingly little to do with that event, as well. As far as planning is concerned, I am on a "need to know" basis, my usefulness will be on an "as needed" basis, and my attendance at various functions associated with the blessed event as well as the event itself will be on a "just in time delivery" basis. Throughout my career in marketing, I learned one extremely important truth: Men make suggestions; women make plans. This Ladies Trek Adventure and my daughter’s wedding are just two splendid examples of this point.

I’m sure everyone who attends will have an outstanding time in Colorado. As my gift to all the women who will attend, I will create a special libation to be enjoyed by all. I don’t know the drink, yet, but here’s one possible name for it: Colorado on the Rockies. It will be a truly refreshing summertime drink. So, stand by, Ladies. With this drink, whatever it may be, you won’t need a ski lift.

Love to all,

Ted Wilson

Ladies Trek - Itinerary (tenative)

This is the current plan:  suggested dates and destinations:

Saturday, July 19
  • Arrive DIA Denver Airport
  • Southwest and Frontier are the best airlines
  • Budget and Dollar are suggested rental car companies
  • (If at all possible, buddy up to keep car count down. Parking is limited where we will be)
Saturday night - Monday night July 20 - 21
  • Breckenridge - Condo and Hotel prices being negotiated

Tuesday night - Wednesday night July 22-23
  • Mt. Princeton - approx $120 budget for food and lodging  (see other blogs)

Thursday night - Friday night  July 24-25
  • Palmer Lake - I can sleep 4-6 depending on your comfort level requirements
  •  The Bed and Breakfast rates are for comfortable quarters and just a mile from the lake and me.

Saturday July 26
  • Denver DIA - return flight home

Plan on staying the whole week with us (or join us at any of the 3 destinations).

I am really excited about you coming.  It will be so much fun to have you here!!

And please think "out loud".  If you blog your comments, you may find that others were thinking the same thing.  We are looking for your feedback.

We should commit no later than Memorial Day.

Ladies Trek - Activities

  • Hiking Trails
  • Dilon Lake
  • Condo pool
Viva will give details on Breckenridge.  Hopefully we can rent units in her condominium to keep us together in her great location.

  • Hiking trails to summit
  • Hot Springs swimming and river soaking
  • xtras:  Horseback riding and River Rafting
  1. Noah's Ark River Rafting from Buena Vista

Palmer Lake
  • Pikes Peak
  • Garden of the Gods
  • Air Force Academy
  • Hiking Santa Fe Trail

I am an hour south of Denver.  There are endless hikes and a quite site.  You can side-trip to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Manitou Springs, Air Force Academy, ....

Palmer Lake is intended as the "rest and recovery" segment.

Ladies Trek - Transportation

Saturday is a low fare for airlines (so is Tuesday and Wednesday).  We will be challenged by the airline fuel problems but John suggested looking into Southwest Airlines Philadelphia-Denver promotion for $99 each way.

Recommendations:

Airlines
Frontier
Southwest

Car rental
Budget
Dollar
Hertz

Ladies Trek - Mt. Princeton Tues-Wed July 22-23

Viva, John and I toured Mt. Princeton on Friday.

It is a 'GO'

The facility is simple, comfortable and located adjacent to lots of activities.  It sits at the foot of the Mt. Princeton summit trails for those us that want to climb.  Access to the hot springs pools are included in our cabin rentals.  River Rafting and Horseback riding are a short drive away.

We reserved 2 cabins for Tues/Wed night July 22 and 23.  Cabin 14 will hold 8-12 of us.  Cabin 13 will hold 6-8 of us.

*** (We reserved the cabins because their summer schedule was nearly full.. they do have additional cabins that do not have the view of our if we have more coming than expected, and we can give back one if our group is smaller than expected.)

Budget for food and lodging for Mt. Princeton:  approximately $40 lodging and $15 groceries

Cabin 14 (8-12 ladies) $375/night plus tax
Cabin 13 (6-8 ladies) $275/night plus tax
Room (4 persons) $130/night plus tax

The motel-style rooms are for couples (if you can talk your hubby into coming with you.)

We will have photos on the website soon as they are developed.

Ladies Trek - Mt. Princeton

We have discussed a number of destinations. Mt. Princeton's reply to our inquiries was the most thorough.

Ladies Trek

Now that it looks like Bob Seaman can get out of his driveway, I suspect that others as well are coming out of winter hibernation. I am hoping that all the ladies out there aren't too booked up for the summer to not think about a visit to CO. How about it? Any of you ladies up for a trip? If it is necessary to entice you, apparently there are a couple of gentlemen willing to crash the party...and perhaps give foot rubs!
It is time to start looking at dates, so we must know who might be interested...c'mon board!!!
