Breckenridge here we come!

Viva,
Carol and I made reservations for the January trip so the “Die is Cast”. Tickets from Philadelphia to Denver, on Southwest, were $219 roundtrip…..Yippie!! We haven’t yet decided whether to rent a car or just take Colorado Mt. Express to Breckenridge but we’ll figure that out as we get closer to the date.
Our plan is to come out a day early, Monday the 26th, in order to help with anything that you might need to get ready. We can go out and do some shopping or whatever else is necessary. As well, Carol will need to go to Vail to pick up her ski equipment and clothing that she stores at a friends house which she could do Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. Depending on when people are coming, we might be able to make that Vail trip into a half day of skiing. I too, could pick up skis in Vail or just bring a second pair from home. Barb, if that sounds good to you, you might want to think about coming out a day early as well.
Thinking snow from now!

Breckenridge Update

Greetings Lads and Lasses,

I just wanted to post an update to our Jan/Feb ski plans. to date the response has been on the quiet side, but several of the hard core folks have expressed an interest. Right now, Viva and Velia, Barbara Hall and myself are definites. Stubbs is a definite maybe, as long as other non skiers come for him to entertain and feed and Carol Hanna and Bob Seaman are also in the maybe category............Carol just needs some more arm twisting and Bob just has to make sure that no one needs his services in TV and Movie land. I feel certain that they will find a way to make it work. Hope to see some more names on this list by the 20th of October, so we can line up our accommodation package.

Regards to all,

jk

As for the MPHS '09 Winterfest, at this time I can't really commit either way...may have "something cooking" in Jan./Feb, but if it falls thru I'll hop in my Jeep and drive over on I-70 to see you guys.
Oh, did I tell you that last week, when I went over to our local Smith's grocery store, there was a Christmas Tree display right inside the front door?!?!?!? "At least" they had it up BEFORE it snowed!
Happy Holidays,

Hey
What a lovely surprise to hear from you.
I am sitting in my home office busily underwriting disability benefits and your email popped up.
WOW - so sorry I could not get to Wilm Del - the centre of the Universe for some - last year but I did catch up with my partner in past crime - Cynthia Raniere. Still gorgeous as ever.

My Mom and Dad traded snowy Shellbourne for sunny Florida just after 9/11 and have not looked back. I cannot believe I am nearly old enough for my British Old Age Pension and my parents are still with us.. Truly we are blessed.  I hope all your family is fit and well.

I hope you get lots of skiers and non skiers to go to your holiday. It does sound like a blast.  My friends who ski in Europe 2x a yr would love to try the Rockies. They will be as green as your email.

Well I have much to do before it's time to head to the Friday night pub session.  Say hello to anyone you catch up with for me and try to look after yourselves. Who know's I may make the 50th.

All the very best wishes from the South of England

PS - Pic attached proves England is not all fog and fish and chips!!  In case you don't know that is me on the right, on left is my pal Mary the skier and in the back is my other half Philip who'se hometown by the way is twinned with Wilmington - go figure

 Dearest Class of '67 Knights!

If people didn't get enough of each other at last year's 40th Reunion Blast, there was a group who came together to create a Class of '67 Western Branch.  They had an idea to put together a Winter, 09 gathering in Colorado.  So grab your mukluks and hit the link to our Western Web Site for all the details from our own Sasquatch of the Slopes, John Kalmer.

By the way, as fair warning, at the moment, I plan to attend.  I don't ski.  I mix drinks.  I will be mixing some special drinks for this occasion:  some warm ones, some fun ones, and even some non-alcoholic ones.  Soooo, if you missed the reunion or miss many of the folks who were there, head over to the web site and see what John has to say about this Green Knight Breckenridge Breakout, 09.

Love to all,

Ted and I are doing great, but we're a little nervous about Ted's total knee replacement surgery this Monday.    I'm sure he'll do fine, but it's hard to not be anxious about the pain and recuperation time involved.    Think good thoughts for him first thing Monday (or maybe toast him with a shot of something festive in your morning coffee… that's my personal plan   : ).

Take care, and good luck getting everyone together.

Ted,
You seem to be on target even after a full days work.  I think what has happened here is the through the beauty of delayed email responses that your previously mentioned #2 got done before #1 and rightly you should delay #3.  At present we are waiting fro a response from Viva as to whether she wants to keep tabs on folks interested in attending.  Once that is done then we con adjust your invitation mailing and my letter that Barbara posted earlier.  It seems that by default we chose the 1/27/09 to 2/3/09 dates through our progressive emailing.  Once we hear from Viva we can align the issues you raise.

As well, I think Judie pointed out that we then also need to have Pat place something on the Reunion website.

Thanks for being attentive and confused all at the same time.  What a guy!!

Hello, folks!

Just trying to catch up here after a shift of mixing Manhattans, martinis, and a number of other drinks including beer and wine for the commisserating masses.

I'm a little confused and I think others will be, too.  John's message says that the first thing folks must do is respond by October 20 with an indication of interest in the concept and the prefered choice of the two date ranges.  But there appears to be no link to respond to that question.  So here are a couple of questions:

How do we know which dates to reserve if we don't know which dates we're planning to tie down?

Are we just sort of answering the question ourselves and declaring the Tuesday to Tuesday date as the date?  (If so, then we need to reword John's message to reflect that.)

If we're going to start taking reservations right away, then this, too, has to be laid out in John's message or in some other message.  There is no discussion about making reservations, what the options are, Viva's role, her condos, other space, and all the stuff people need to know so they can make decisions.

I know there's a lot of discussion on the blog, but people just are not going to go there and wade through all the entries to figure this out - hell, I've been in on this for the past couple of days and I'm not sure I understand it all!  We need to lay out all the plans and the process as clearly, precisely, and accessibly as possible.

Unless I'm too bleary eyed to see it, I just don't think the layout of the link is ready for a public invitation.

Help me, I've fallen over and can't get up.

RE: Ski09: Item2 done

Thanks Barb for setting this up.  OK now lets settle item # 1.  Viva since there is a link to your email for lodging, are you willing to keep count of responders?  If so let’s have Ted put something to that affect in the welcome letter.  If you don’t want to do that, then I’ll have Ted direct people to me and then I will stay in touch with you for the first responders.  As well, I think we need to direct folks to respond only to Viva or me if they plan on coming and those that just want to chat to do so on the blog site.

Here are the tasks that need to be done at this moment, yes? no?

1.  Decide how people will respond to the announcement.  John's email? Someone else's email?  Some other format?  Someone make a decision on this.  Nothing else can be done until this is set.

2.  Post John's announcement on the web page (Barbara).  Is there anything besides the method of response that needs to be done prior to this step?

3.  Email the masses with the link to John's announcement (Ted).

I can't do number 3 until number 2 is done, which can't be done until number 1 is done.

The about face was merely in the face of what turned out to be a non-issue!  Clearly, the super bowl issue was not a major factor for anyone but me.  So, the only decent thing to do was for me to give it up.  Besides, I gave you fair warning about the emergence of my Jekyl and Hyde side:  when the Spin Doctor enters the room, I gotta go!  He's a scarey character, that Spin Doctor.

In regard to drinking very little, it's a bit ironic:  I, too, drink very little nowadays.  Oh, I'll sip a new concoction to see if it works or what needs adjustment, but when I go out, maybe one drink and that's it for me.  There is one exception:  Cabo Wabo Reposado Tequila.  Betcha I can't sip just one!

In regard to low fat methods of cooking, it's not in my culinary dictionary.  Indeed, my annual Super Bowl dish could be a heart attack waiting to happen.  Grease galore (but no Greece to be found!).

Indeed you did just yell "fire" in a partially filled theater……and then you have the nerve to do a total about face and find the Game as a marketing tool.  You must be accustomed to having people pissed off at you, yes? !! J   If you haven't done it already, I think your next life change may be into a political operative.  Let's see, Carl Rove or James Carvel, hmmmmm, oh hell it doesn't matter, they are all the same…..spin, spin, spin.  Now you have my attention however…..since I drink very little the mixmeister in you has held little interest.  Having just spent the weekend with our Judie, Kitchen Queen Baldini,  I'm much more interested in your culinary talents.  I know that Viva has a great kitchen and it's in full view of the 40 inch screen!!  All of a sudden it seems like changing the dates is off the table.  How does everyone else feel??

Back to Judie.  She is an excellent cook and unlike me she actually likes to follow recipes and make interesting mixes of foods.  Yum!!  Judie, that means that we need to find a low fat method of making your chicken tarragon.  I vote for it being on the Breckenridge menu.

Given the various considerations previously made by all before I started with my kibitzing, you have probably already narrowed the dates down to the best possible dates all things but a football game considered.  (By the way, the super bowl will be played in Tampa, FL this year.  The only way Denver will be impacted by that is if the Broncos end up playing in the game and then it will just be flights to and from Tampa.)  So, ignore my ranting.  John's correct - it doesn't matter what date is picked, someone somewhere will always have a conflict.

Okay, Barbara, let me know when John's message is posted to the link you sent me and I'll start getting the emails out to all.  I'm polishing up the email list, now.

Ted does bring up different wrinkle for us to consider.  The flights may fill quickly if Broncos host the game.  Those tickets would blackmarket well.

For non-investors, our group should be encouraged to make reservations early.  John has done some research.

I don't think the Super Bowl was ever part of our discussion.  Personally, I always looked forward to the Super Bowl, not for the game but because it cleared people off the slopes…..so you know where my head is!!!!  The game is played so late in recent history, that it has little impact on the crowds on the mountain.

Viva, are the condo rentals by the week only and does that always run from Saturday to Saturday?  If so the shorter term folks might be better off at the local lodge, renting for only the days they plan to stay. As well, we could always back up a week into January.  For me it just doesn't matter since the Super Bowl is secondary to my plans.

Did I just yell, "fire" in an empty movie theatre?  Sorry, folks.  The "free lodging" and "40 inch flat screen" has captured my imagination.  No matter what, I will be traveling alone - Ann is a school administrator and in this day and age, she has NO flexibility to take time off while school is in session.  That doesn't mean I would stick her with the super bowl cooking if I snuck out of town.  For those who know Ann, she would make something very nice but not get hung up on trying to deliver what has become a traditional super bowl sunday menu item.  So, she could care less, it's everyone else that would be really pissed off at me.  I'm just trying to decide if that really matters to me at this point in life...

Probably, the only person who will have a really solid reason not to be there on Super Bowl Sunday will be Steve Kelley - he'll most likely be covering it as he does for all major sporting events!

Go ahead and continue formulating the plan(s).  I'm putting on my marketing director hat for this one - WARNING:  The Spin Doctor has just arrived.

Instead of viewing the Super Bowl as a liabililty - use it as THE REASON for the gathering.  The class of '67 is forever linked to the Super Bowl:  the first super bowl was in 1967(Green Bay Packers over the Kansas City Chiefs, 35 - 10)!  It's a perfect match... And, maybe it could work out that I could prepare the main course for the game ...  hmmmmm... or maybe not ... hmmmm....

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to be so silent. My travel and work schedule has been crazy this week.
John, the invitation is great. There seems to be concerns regarding the dates and the Superbowl. We can definitely watch it at my place or at any of the numerous bars and restaurants in town. I have a high def 40" flat screen TV and lots of seating room in my condo. Barb is right, Colorado is sports crazy and that excitement can actually add to our trip.
I also want to let everyone know that I own two condos that sleep 14 people. One I live in and the other I rent out for short term vacation rentals. Together there are 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and two kitchens. I would like to donate them at no charge to defer some of the costs of this trip especially in these economic times. If we get more people coming or others would like more privacy maybe we can spread the costs across everyone. My family does that often when we have a huge turn out and it works well for everyone.
I still have availability on the following dates in January and February open:
January 10-31
February1-10
February 15-28

Please let me know if any of those dates work. Thanks everyone for all you have done to get this going.
