Below I have made a few minor adjustments to John's proposed message (one or two merely grammatical). I also changed the color from red to green. If I have changed the meaning or intent of anything, tell be to leave well enough alone and change it back.
In an effort to nudge people to tune in to the Western Web Site and the incredibly dynamic work of our dearest Barbara Lee, I think it would be best to set John's message up on that site with an email link to his email - if it is, indeed, John who will be monitoring the responses. To get folks to that message and the web site, as John requested, I'll send out the email message I drafted (in red), which is below. Barbara can provide me with a more appropriate url if the link I have used is not the best one to use.
As for which date I would find most suitable - whichever one yields the best deals for all (lodging rates and airline rates). I actually would have prefered something that included the President's Day weekend in mid-February, but that wasn't one of the choices, was it?, so I'll let that go for now...
Okay, that's my 2 cents, which, due to subprime thinking, has just fallen to a half cent. Somebody, quick, BAIL ME OUT!
Love to all,
TW
Green Knights,As some of you know, Bob Seaman, Barbara Hall, Viva Steffans Carol Hanna and I spent some time in Colorado and Utah last winter playing in the mountains. We had such a good time that we talked about trying to organize a larger gathering of Knights to meet in Breckenridge, Colorado during the winter of 2009. We thought it would provide a great opportunity for those western classmates who couldn't make it to last year's 40th Reunion celebration in Wilmington to gather on your side of the continent! The dates we are looking at are from Tuesday Jan. 27th to Tuesday February 3rd, or perhaps a Saturday to Saturday from 1/23/09 to 1/31/09. We will decide once we see the numbers. Some of us are avid skiers, some of us just like the mountains and others might just like to get away and come visit, chat and eat well. There is room for all.Well, over the weekend Barbara reminded us that the time has come to act! So, consider this as the first announcement of our intentions. To be sure it will take a little work and time is of the essence. For the organizers, we need to know how many are truly interested so that we can find the best accommodations for our group size. As well, reserving a flight today will cost you much less than a month or two from now. (I just priced flights on Southwest and found roundtrip fares for under $250 between Philadelphia and Denver, under $200 from Los Angeles, and close to $150 from San Francisco….not bad!)Right now we would like to get an idea of those who are interested and which dates you prefer (1/27 – 2/3 or 1/23 to 1/31). Once we have a rough idea of the numbers and dates, we can determine if the condo route at Viva's complex or other accommodations make more sense. Please respond to me by October 20thto be included in the initial planning.Warm regards!John KalmerMy email:Subject: Reunion Redux:Dearest Class of '67 Knights! If people didn't get enough of each other at last year's 40th Reunion Blast, there was a group who came together to create a Class of '67 Western Branch. They had an idea to put together a Winter, 09 gathering in Colorado. So grab your mukluks and hit the link to our Western Web Site for all the details from our own Sasquatch of the Slopes, John Kalmer.By the way, as fair warning, at the moment, I plan to attend. I don't ski. I mix drinks. I will be mixing some special drinks for this occasion: some warm ones, some fun ones, and even some non-alcoholic ones. Soooo, if you missed the reunion or miss many of the folks who were there, head over to the web site and see what John has to say about this Green Knight Breckenridge Breakout, 09.Love to all,Ted Wilson----- Original Message -----From: John KalmerCc: Carol DeardorffSent: Sunday, October 05, 2008 9:02 PMSubject: Preliminary announcement/invitationHi guys and dolls,
I have put together a rough draft to send out to our brethren as an invitation to get involved with our winter ski plans. I'm open to any changes or additions that you might think are necessary. A few thoughts or questions:
Ted, can you easily send this out to the email list you put together last year, as well as Barb putting it on our site?
Barb, should we have people respond to me or can we set up something on our Western Web site were people can read about the event and respond to some kind of list directly on the site?
Viva, haven't talked to you in a while……miss you!
Open for suggestions,
jk
